Gotti

Italian multi-piece artistry for European classics

Est. 1975Italy

History & Overview

According to company history, Gotti was founded in 1984 by Rodolfo Gotti in Milan, Italy, entering the European wheel market during the period when aftermarket alloy wheels were becoming mainstream accessories for sport and touring car enthusiasts. The Italian tuning scene of the 1980s was closely connected to motorsport culture, and Milan sat at the center of it. Gotti built its early reputation on multi-spoke and mesh designs that combined Italian aesthetic sensibility with the multi-piece construction that gave builders flexibility to adjust widths and offsets precisely.

Through the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Gotti wheels became well recognized in the European tuning scene on platforms like the Golf GTI, BMW 3-Series, and similar sport compacts and sport sedans. The J55 series designs, with their classic five-spoke pattern, became the most recognizable Gotti designs of the era. The brand reflected the Italian attention to visual detail, with spoke patterns and finishes that stood out from more utilitarian German options. The 1990s were the peak of Gotti's mainstream visibility, when European hot hatch and tuner culture was thriving and aftermarket wheels were a central part of any serious build.

Gotti's multi-piece construction approach gave builders the ability to dial in offsets and widths more precisely than off-the-shelf cast wheels allowed. The brand was part of the same Italian design tradition that produced OZ Racing and Speedline, though it remained smaller and more focused than those brands. Competition wheels were produced for Group C and Group 5 racing applications, including fitments for Porsche and BMW racing cars of the period.

Today Gotti has less mainstream visibility than during its 1990s peak, but retains a following among enthusiasts building period-correct European cars from that era. RS Watanabe in Japan continues producing Gotti MG wheels using traditional casting methods for classic car restorers and collectors. The brand occupies a niche space that's most relevant to someone restoring or faithfully building a 1980s-1990s European car rather than to general buyers.
