Weld Racing
American drag racing wheels built in Kansas City since 1967
History & Overview
Weld Racing was founded in 1967 by Greg Weld in Kansas City, Missouri. Weld himself was a racing driver with firsthand experience of the wheel failures that plagued competition cars of the era, and he started the company specifically to build wheels that could handle the punishment of motorsport without adding unnecessary weight.
The brand built its name in drag racing, where the combination of lightweight construction and reliability under extreme launch loads is critical. Weld became the standard choice for serious NHRA competitors throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and that relationship with professional drag racing has never really changed. Walk through the pits at any major NHRA national event today and you will find Weld wheels on a significant percentage of the cars that are actually running for win lights.
Beyond drag racing, Weld has had success in NASCAR and oval track racing, particularly in the Late Model and Modified divisions where the brand's lightweight billet construction gives competitors an edge on long green flag runs. Weld also supplies wheels to sprint car and midget racing, two disciplines that place extreme demands on wheel integrity.
The brand expanded into the street performance market with the S71 and RT-S lines, which brought Weld's racing DNA to road-registered vehicles. These wheels are popular with modern muscle car builds, particularly Mustangs and Camaros where drag strip use is common. All Weld Racing products continue to be manufactured in Kansas City.
