DEFROST: Charlotte’s spring-opener car meet

From a melting BBS wheel to rows of standout builds lining the track, Defrosted brought energy back to the meet. Over 700 cars filled 10/10ths, turning a follow-up event into something bigger than expected.

DEFROST: Charlotte’s spring-opener car meet

We knew after the Toy Drive event that the people of Charlotte wanted another WheelPrice car meet. We knew we had to do a lot to meet the hype the Toy Drive created, and we would need to bring out even better cars. What we did not know was how much the people of Charlotte would show up, as over  with some of the greatest builds in the car community for the DEFROST car meet.

Spring had finally arrived, and we could finally put those quarter zips and heavy jackets back in the closet. There wasn’t a better time to be out in the sun with fellow car enthusiasts. We wanted to match the moment, which is why we created our own centerpiece, a frozen BBS wheel actively melting as the event went on. To create it, we partnered with EWheelWorks for the BBS wheel and The Ice Trade to freeze it in premium cocktail quality ice, because standard ice would simply not look as good in photos. The result was the first-ever frozen BBS wheel.

But enough about a wheel that isn’t attached to the real stars, what about the cars? Well Charlotte certainly didn’t disappoint, bringing the best of their car culture.Walking down the racetrack lined with participant cars, you could see some of the best project builds in North Carolina. You could spot high powered German builds and classic Japanese icons from the 90s. Balancing these out were tastefully modified classic BMWs that felt like a throwback to what modifying meant in the 90s. Further up the track, you might have been surprised to find modified Mini Coopers, both old and new. As you walk away from the tiny but mighties, you might do a double take at an all black Chevy Impala, before realizing it is not a police car thanks to its lowered stance and wheels. Then you would walk past a cleanly modified E36 3 Series with a BMW Inline 6 Engine Swap.

You could take a break at the food truck, or walk past the Martini liveried Porsche Cayenne off roader and head inside the clubhouse to see the centerpiece. If you managed to get past the crowd around the iced out BBS wheel, you would step outside to find a collection of some of the best cars we assembled. Marlboro livery Ferrari 430 tuned to race spec, and a 2006 Ford gt40. Then you'd see the Nissan Silva and 180SX with builds that would fit right in at a classic Fast and Furious era car meet. But among the bright exotics, you would see an odd looking Fox Body Mustang. But upon closer inspection, you'd see an unexpected name, Mclaren. This was none other than Vaughn Gitton Jr.'s project of a fox bodied mustang Mclaren. It was never a build I thought I needed, but seeing and hearing it in person made it one of my favorite builds..

Make no mistake, this was only possible thanks to 10/10ths collaboration in making the event happen. We cannot thank Graham Smith, the General Manager of Ten Tenths Motor Club enough for making not one but two WheelPrice events happen in grand style. To those who want more of 10/10ths, they will be hosting the Heritage Invitational from April 9-11th. This will be the event to be at, with live racing of legendary cars, historic and fabulously rare and famous cars lining up to be judged and ogled at by participants.
